"Say hello to my little friend" is one of the most remarkable lines in the movie history. The line was uttered by the main protagonist in the film "Scarface", which is now in the works of having its modern adaptation.
"Scarface" is an American film, which was based on the novel of the same name authored by Armitage Trail. It focused on feud between gangs the leadership in Chicago.
The novel had a film adaptation in 1932, starring Paul Muni as Antonio "Tony" Camonte. It was directed by Howard Hawks and Richard Rosson, with Howard Hughes as co-producer.
In 1983, another film adaptation was made. The story was set in the 1980s Miami. It centered on the life of Al Pacino, a Cuban refugee with no possession and assets and eventually becomes an influential drug lord. The film starred Al Pacino as Tony Montana and it was spearheaded by Brian De Palma, with Martin Bregman as producer.
At present, "Scarface" is going to have another remake.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the film is set to be piloted by Director Pablo Larrain, with Jonathan Herman as writer. Marc Shmuger, Scott Stuber, Dylan Clark, Marty Bregman, Jon Mone, and Jay Polidoro are the film producers.
Chilean director Larrain is known for his previous works "Fuga" (2006), "Tony Manero" (2008), "Post Mortem" (2010), "Prófugos" (2011), "No" (2012), and "Venice 70: Future Reloaded" (2013). One of his projects this year is the dram film "The Club", which won him the Berlin International Film Festival's Jury Grand Prix, as per Rolling Stone.
"Scarface" also served as an influence that led to the production of other anti-heroes in the world of filmatography. Some of them are Tony Soprano in "The Sopranos", Nucky Thompson in "Boardwalk Empire", and Walter White in "Breaking Bad."
"Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan spoke his thoughts on Walter White in Rolling Stone. He said that White is taking the path of Scarface, since fans lose their sympathy for the said character.
Meanwhile, the 2015 adaptation of Trail's novel will be set in Los Angeles. Fans of "Scarface" have to wait for the official announcement with regard to the cast and release date.
