Tag Heur will release a "functional and fashionable" with the help of Google and Intel, but it remains to be seen if this new smartwatch can provide competition to the Apple Watch.

According to The Age,the world's largest watch fair, Basel Watch Fair, will present some of the new smartwatches in the market, including from Swiss brand Tag Huer. The company's exec Jean Claude Biver is reportedly working with Google and Intel in making the new device.

Guy Semon, Tag's General Manager and an Engineer and Inventor, hatched the plan in tandem with Biver which is all set to revolutionize the watch market.

In a statement issued to Watch-Next, Biver has described this endeavor as "necessary but exciting - we don't have the requisite skills in-house, but these geniuses [Google and Intel] will bring them to the partnership." It seems like Google and Intel are partnering up to provide a good resistance to Apple's entry in the smartwatch domain.

Gucci, Fossil, Bulgari, Frederique Constant and Brietling will also showcase their own smartwatches at the said fair.

Meanwhile, it has in the past been observed that the traditional watch makers are defending their territory and terming the smartwatch concept as the one saddened by connectivity to phone and battery issues. Biver, however, remarks that "Only a Dead Fish swims with the current". It is well evident that Biver is all set to make a mark in the watch market with this embrace of change.

The details as to how the smart watch would look are obscure with Biver and Semon hinting on working Carrera Huer 01 platform. The proposed watch would look similar to the present ones but is all set to house internals that could be swapped or upgraded for later versions. They can also be converted to a traditional watch by being replaced by a mechanical module.
