With five weeks to go before the much-awaited slugfest between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., seven-time Trainer of the Year winner Freddie Roach revealed his possession of a 'secret weapon' he's itching to unleash in the final two weeks of their preparation for the mega-fight.
Roach, who cleared from the very beginning his intention to turn Pacquiao into a fighting machine with the purpose of dealing Mayweather his first ever loss in his professional boxing career, stressed that he's happy with the performance of the young sparring partners he brought in at the Wildcard Gym for his ultimate prized fighter.
"No, I got the guys that I wanted. We selected good young fighters, undefeated fighters. We got one kid from Finland, he's 24-1. We got one kid from Chicago, he's 8-0. We had one kid from Boston but he didn't work out, he can't make it so we guy a guy from St. Louis," Roach said in an interview on On the Ropes.
"I brought some great young kids to box, I've got too many actually. I got six really good guys that all look like Mayweather and I have one that I'm gonna use in the last two weeks is one that used to work at Mayweather's gym and was part of Mayweather's camp."
However, the Hall of Fame trainer added that he has still something left in his bag of tricks, one of those is a former member of the Mayweather stable who decided to help Pacquiao in his preparation for his bout with Mayweather on May 2 at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"He does the style really well, he's my secret weapon right now. He's staying at my house, we talk about strategy all night long, we watch film all night long and he said that Mayweather had disrespected him and they kind of just threw him aside, so I took him on."
After six years of wait, Pacquiao and Mayweather will share the same ring to determine not only the pound-for-pound king but the best fighter in the era. Dubbed as the Battle for Greatness, the mega-showdown is expected to break all sorts of records, including gate attendance, merchandize sales and pay-per-view revenues.
