First witnessed 27 years ago, David Mamet is ready to bring his 1988 play "Speed-the-Plow" to the big screen. The play stands as a satirical dissection of the American movie business.

Producer Randall Emmett shared his excitement for the film adaptation with Empire Online. Filled with enthusiasm to work with Mamet and the other staffs, Emmett said that Mamet's play is "iconic' and "relevant" in the modern era just like when it first landed on the stage. Along with Emmett, George Furla, and Irwin Winkler will be in charge in the film's production while Mamet is set to pen the film.

Broadway reveals that the story plot centers on two influential Hollywood directors, Charlie Fox and Bobby Gould. Fox comes to Gould with a project that is certain to hit with a major star who happens to work for a rival studio. Karen, Fox's secretary, gets involved in the process with her personal agenda in the industry.

The original play starred Joe Mantegna as Gould, Ron silver as Fox, and Madonna as Karen. It premiered on Broadway at the Royal Theatre in a production by the Lincoln Center Theater. After its opening on May 3, 1988, the play had 279 performances. It closed on Dec. 31, 1988.

In 2008, it was revived and featured various artists including Jeremy Piven, Raul Esparza, Elizabeth Moth, Norbert Leo Butz, William Macy, Kevin Spacey, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Michelle Kelly. It was also performed at the Playhouse Theater in September last year, being directed by Lindsay Posner, along with Nigel Lindsay as Fox, Richard Schiff as Gould, and Lindsay Lohan as Karen.

Meanwhile, there are no official details with regard to the cast and additional staff as well as if there is a twist in the plot. Fans of the broadway have to wait for a while.
