“Detective Gui,” top-billed by Taiwanese star Vic Zhou and mainland actress Wang Luodan, is set to land on theaters on July 24, coinciding with China’s golden summer movie season.

The comedy movie is the latest project of Hong Kong director Oxide Pang Chun.

The release date was announced during a press conference at the Beijing International Film Festival.

"Detective Gui" follows the story of a young female detective who has a high IQ but a very low EQ.

Wang will play the role of Gui Xiang, who learned to read at age 3, caught a thief at age 7, and helped solve a police case at age 10. However, Gui was not that lucky when it comes to romance.

On the other hand, Taiwanese actor Zhou will take the role of A Zhe, a cute policeman. Sparks fly when Gui, who could not get over her former flame who dumped her, meets A Zhe.

Asked about a detective film that targets female audiences, director Chun shared that his latest project is aimed at reflecting the lives of many members of the society.

"In real life, they often perform so well or even outstanding in academic studies or their career, but do poorly in emotional life. Gui's inability to balance the two will certainly resonate with many people," Chun stated.

Chun is confident that the film could still perform well although it will be released on the conventional summer movie season in China. Along with the detective-themed comedy film, other foreign blockbusters will also be shown during the period.

The Hong Kong-based director said that "the summer movie season is big enough for many other movies and mine. I believe that movies of different genres can all find a place."
