There have been some hints of romance brewing between Black Widow and Hulk in the past trailers of "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Evans and Renner were previously asked about the rumors on Black Widow wanting to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America in a video interview with Digital Spy.

Renner said that Black Widow is a slut and Evans said that she is "a complete whore." The former also jokingly added that the female Avenger has a prosthetic leg.

Renner also expressed his apology in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Renner said that he was sorry for offending people with his "tasteless" joke about the fictional character Black Widow. The actor added that it was not meant to be serious and it was just to have jabbing fun during a tiring and mind-numbing press tour.

The actors' comments are not viewed as great for the extensive press tour of "Avengers: Age of Ultron," not to mention Robert Downey Jr.'s walking out of an interview after being queried about his "dark period."

Though fans were upset by the actors' jokes, some defended the puns as mere jokes intended to lighten up Black Widow's pairing to a male Avenger. These can be forms of publicity as Marvel's strategy to attract more fans to the upcoming film, as per Huffington Post.

The film stars Evans, Renner, Johansson, Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Aaron Taylor-Johnsson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, and James Spader.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States on May 1.
