Apple is believed to be working on a design makeover for its Apple TV remote control unit which, among others could see the introduction of a touch pad control. A dedicated app store, Siri like voice control function and a faster A8 chip too is being linked to the new remote control.

The New York Times further stated that the touch pad on the new remote will be akin to that found on the MacBook devices. Apple though is likely to retain the two buttons that leads to menu and start/stop functionalities. The new remote could however be a tad thicker than the current versions.

The current remote that was launched with the Apple TV services back in 2007 incorporates a minimalist design theme, with just two buttons and a circular ring button. Crafted from a single sheet of aluminium, the remote with its elegant but simplistic lines is also considered to be an engineering masterpiece, claimed AppleInsider.

The central idea behind the Apple TV remote control is to offer something that is simple yet easy to use, one that does not overwhelm the user. No wonder, Apple uses the Google TV remote with 76 button as a case study to design its own remote.

Apple is expected to launch its revamped Apple TV service in June. Tim Cook had earlier hinted at 'major, major changes' in the media segment, leading many to speculate there could be a lot of goodies for the taking. A new subscription based services on the lines of the HBO Now that allows viewers to access the channel without a cable subscription could be the pointer of something similar coming our way.
