A seizure-sniffing dog named Flint informs a 11-year-old child's family when a seizure will happen soon. The service dog warns adults and also helps to prevent falls by the girl.

Alyssa Howes of California was four years old when she lost her eyesight and began having seizures, according to NH Voice. Howes used to have 20 seizure attacks daily, and her grandmother spent sleepless nights monitoring her granddaughter.

Howes' life changed for the better when she received the service dog Flint as a gift three years ago and she now has more freedom, according to CTV News.  

Scientists believe dogs are able to smell chemical changes before a human is about to have an attack, then alert others of the seizure by barking. However, there is much debate about the mechanics of the dog's unique ability.

Flint has helped Howes to live a more normal life. Juliette Palomaki, the girl's mother, said that Flint provides her withagnolia Paws for Compassion is a public awareness group. It encourages children who suffer from seizures, to get a service dog. Magnol  a pet companion whether she is having fun or a bad day.

Unfortunately, there are not enough dogs like Flint to help children with disabilities such as epilepsy and autism. 4 Paws for Ability is one of the few service dog organizations that help both adults and children.

Also, most organizations like 4 Paws for Ability that provide service dogs for young children require special training for two or more adult caregivers. That can include parents and babysitters, for example.

Training "seizure dogs" is not cheap. The organization 4 Paws spends $22,000 to breed and train man's best friend, and asks the child's family to raise $15,000 to supplement the costs.
