In "Outlander" season 1 finale titled "To Ransom A Man's Soul," which aired on May 30, Saturday, Jamie (Sam Heughan) suffered from the memory of the torture he endured still lingering on his mind after he was freed by a daring rescue.

Jamie nearly lost himself after promising himself to Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) in exchange for the life of Claire (Caitriona Balfe). The finale episode opened with Randall getting out of bed to fetch a knife. He then told a catatonic Jamie, "You owe me a debt."

Upon approaching Jamie, Randall stopped when he was distracted by the noises far above him. The noises were from Claire, who has come to rescue Jamie once again after her unfortunate first try.

This time in "Outlander" season 1 finale, Claire was successful after storming Wentworth Prison with a herd of cattle in tow. As Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) carried Jamie out, Claire consoled the latter saying, "You're safe now. I'm going to help you, I swear."

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, "Outlander" writer Ira Steven Behr said it was much easier to write "Outlander" season 1 finale titled "To Ransom A Man's Soul" than it was to be on set.

"Outlander" creator Ronald D. Moore also said they did not focus on the potential reaction of the viewers while making final episode of the first season. He told Access Hollywood, "It's absolutely sort of dicey stuff to try to deal with, but we all just kind of went at it very professionally and we all just sort of talked about it just in straight up story terms."
