After months of anticipation, Windows 10 will finally see the light of day after Microsoft officially announced that the operating system will be released on July 29.
Microsoft vice president of operating systems Terry Myerson revealed the release date on a blog post on Monday. Microsoft previously announced that the operating system will be released within the summer period. According to Wired, Windows 10 will be available in 111 languages and will be released simultaneously in 190 countries.
Windows 10 will be available for a wide array of platforms including desktop computers, smartphones, tablets and laptops. Microsoft also designed Windows 10 in order to support Internet of Things devices.
According to NBC News, Windows 10 will be the latest major operating system release from Microsoft since the Windows 8 was released in 2012. The live tile presentation of Windows 8 came as a misfire from Microsoft, especially for users who prefers the classic Windows setup. The Windows 8 backlash was so severe that Microsoft decided to skip Windows 9 in order to discontinue the so-called jinx.
With Windows 10, Microsoft promises to combine the usual classic presentation of older Windows variant with touchscreen optimization present in Windows 8. Windows 10 is also a big step for Microsoft since the company decided to offer the operating system as a free upgrade for current Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users.
For those who does not own a copy of Windows, the new operating system will fetch a price tag of $199 for the Windows 10 Home variant and $199 for the Windows Pro version.
