Among the major announcements made by Apple during its annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) is the company's new music streaming service called Apple Music.
According to The Verge, Apple Music service is a mash-up of iTunes, Pandora and Spotify with added social elements from Instagram and Tumblr. Aside from music streaming, Apple Music will also feature a 24/7 Internet radio called Beats 1. The radio channel will be hosted by some of the world's top DJ's like Ebro Darden, Zane Lowe and Julie Adenuga.
Tech analysts closely compare Beats 1 to the Sirius satellite radio service. A building to house Beats 1 production team is already under construction at Beats headquarters in Culver City, California.
In order to attract a strong user base, Apple is planning to release exclusive content to its streaming service. These exclusives will be available on Apple Music for a limited time only. During the Apple Music presentation, Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor announced that he is working with Apple in order to promote its new music service, according to USA Today.
Rapper Drake also announced that he will be releasing his upcoming album on Apple Music.
Apple is pushing the boundaries of its services even further by releasing Apple Music to more than 100 countries, including China.
Despite interesting features integrated into Apple Music, many were not satisfied with its monthly subscription fee especially when free music streaming apps are currently available like Spotify.
Users who downloaded Apple Music will get the service free for the first three months. After that, it will cost $9.99 per month. While the service comes with additional feature like Beats 1, some experts argue that the subscription fee is just too much for a service that also offered for free by other apps.
