Australian rapper Iggy Azalea has cancelled her second appearance for the year opting out of performing at a gay pride event in Pittsburgh set for this weekend following past criticism hurled at her as being homophobic.
The young entertainer in a statement to fans titled "A Message To Pittsburgh" which she tweeted, apologized for comments made in the past and added that she did not want her presence to draw attention away from the evening.
In addition, Azalea reiterated that she is a believer in equality and openly admitted to supporting transgender and gay rights.
For the controversial artist, the performance in Pittsburgh on June 13 was to be one of the few remaining performances lined up for this year according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
The "Fancy" rapper in one of her tamer posts on twitter in 2010 said: "When guys whisper in each other's ears I always think it's kind of homo." Since then statements such these have been deleted from her account but have resulted in online feuds.
The event titled Pride in the Street which is an annual celebration aimed at promoting an inclusive environment for gay and lesbians in the community almost faced a boycott according to ET Online.
Previously the President of the City Council, Bruce Kraus, who is the first openly gay official to be elected in Pittsburgh together with other groups, cancelled attendance at the show in protest over Azalea's performance.
Meanwhile, Azalea's previously delayed tour of Canada and the United States has been called off as well by the star who said she required a "mental break," according to reports and that she felt she was at the end of an era.
