Recently rolled out is the AT&T LG G4 Android 5.1 Lollipop OS update, which apparently gets installed without the consent of users, even during a phone call, resulting in call drop.
A LG G4 user wrote on Reddit, “My LG G4 just updated it’s software automatically, without any prompts or asking for confirmation. What gives? Anyone else see this?”
LG G4 owners are complaining that there is no warning or notification, as the smartphone just reboots and installs the update automatically.
A representative for AT&T has confirmed about LG G4 Android 5.1 Lollipop OS update, saying that the update is for "some enhancement for AT&T's addressbook, not exactly a critical update that warrant an immediate and enforced installation," according to SlashGear.
The AT&T support page also has information about the software update, stating "This update will be pushed to customers via the Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) using the AT&T Mobile Broadband Network."
However, there is no word about the auto installs, but AT&T has asked the users to check for update notification through AT&T software update and has also advised the users to back up files, prior to upgrading the software.
It has been just a month or two since the launch of the LG's flagship device, and the G4 has so soon received a minor update - software version H81010E of Build# - LMY47D, at file size of just 26.5MB.
It is not just the AT&T LG G4 owners facing such situation, but also T-Mobile LG G4 users, who have received an update which automatically installs and reboots the smartphone. In case of T-Mobile variant, the update is rolled out as build H8111Oh at a file size of 174.10MB, as reported by Droid-Life.
According to T-Mobile, the update is “mandatory and improves software stability.”
LG is yet to comment on the auto-installing update.
