With Peyton Reed's "Ant-Man" coming to theaters soon, the director has said that the tiniest superhero is worthy of having his own blockbuster movie.
Reed told Cinema Blend that there were cynical remarks on the film poster of his upcoming "Ant-Man," questioning the greatness of his masterpiece. For the director, the movie itself will present in a "definitive way" how "Ant-Man" can be cool.
As per International Business Times, it was also mentioned by the director that "an underdog feeling" can be felt at one point in the realm of filmmaking, such as directing a first movie. Whether the movie does well or not, that "underdog" feeling will eventually fade away.
"Ant-Man's" director also pointed out that he likes the concept of the tiniest superhero being able to change his size at will. Reed also talked about the superhero's ability to control ants, which he views as "strange." For the director, his free will allowed him to make concepts such as mobilization of small things.
Just like James Gunn and his team did in his outer space-based superhero film "Guardians of the Galaxy," which had its own appeal to the both Marvel fans and movie goers, Reed's "Ant-Man" holds a chance of surprising the audience despite low expectations.
"Ant-Man" centers on former thief and prisoner Scott Lang, who is conscripted by Dr. Hank Pym to utilize his special suit that lets him grow and shrink at will, while boosting his powers. Reed's movie stars Paul Rudd, Michael Peña, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, and Bobby Cannavale, among others.
Directed by Reed, "Ant-Man" is slated to premiere in theaters on July 14.
