"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" panel at Comic Con International held in San Diego on July 10 revealed a number of exciting details in the upcoming film. The panel was later joined by Star Wars original cast Harrison Ford, making it the most interesting panel in this year's Comic Con.
According to Vox, "The Force Awakens" panel was joined by Lucasfilm producer Kathleen Kennedy, director J.J. Abrams and Star Wars legends Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, who appeared in public for the first time after his plane accident. They revealed details that had fans anticipate "Star Wars Episode VII".
For one, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" star Domhnall Gleeson will play the role of General Hux of the First Order whose base is named "Starkiller", which was another revelation.
In addition, Simon Pegg will play as an alien in the film, as seen from the behind-the-scenes video shown in the event. Apparenly, the trailer is not yet available.
As for the effects widely anticipated by fans, the team confirmed that they mostly used practical effects rather than computer-generated imagery (CGI), Bustle reported. In fact, the robot Bobba Joe was brought along to give fans a proof of what's in store for them.
Ford said "The Force Awakens" is a "natural progression" of the first films. It also takes a theme that is different from the original movies, Kennedy, who is also Lucasfilm's president, confirmed.
Episodes VIII and IX will belong to the same saga, Kennedy added. Overall, the script is "amazing," the panel said. It did impress Ford, who was reportedly not easily impressed. But fans already anticipate that.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is now at the editing stages and will be in theaters on Dec. 18.
