On Friday night, the popular TV singing contest "The Voice of China" will launch its fourth season, welcoming pop megastar Jay Chou as the show's new coach.
Debuting on Zhejiang Satellite Television, the Chinese franchise of the worldwide phenomenon will be showcasing the vocal prowess of 50 candidates who will vie for the championship tilt first through a blind audition process.
According to QQ.com, the participants of the newest season are majorly Chinese living overseas. The show will be on broadcast for the next five weeks.
The fourth season of "The Voice of China" will come back with a special set, designed with a giant white curtain. The curtain will serve as a way for the coaches to not see the participants' face even after they turned their chair for them.
This new addition to the set is expected to build more suspense, as the coaches try to tell whether the candidate has indeed something special in his or her performance.
The latest installment of the singing show's Chinese edition will also have three online and two affiliated television shows. This marks "The Voice of China" as the program with the most affiliated shows in the country's entertainment history.
This year's coaches will include award-winning pop singer Jay Chou, who has sold over 30 million albums. His inclusion in the list of judges and coaches has stirred anticipation from fans and followers. Completing the list are Wang Feng, Harlem Yu and Na Ying.
"The Voice of China" Season 3 had Tianjin-hailing Zhang Bichen as its grand champion. Zhang performed "Where Has Time Gone" during the final round.
The well-received show is based on the Dutch program "The Voice of Holland" and is part of the franchise that has also conquered the entertainment scene of other countries.
