When Toyota announced the FT-1 concept during the 2014 North American International Auto Show, a handful of speculation claim that it might be the new Supra. However, it turns out that the 2017 Toyota Supra will not sport the FT-1 design and instead will have a powerful 470 horsepower engine.

According to Motoring, their sources within Toyota has confirmed that the 2017 Supra will not be based on the FT-1 design. Additionally, the new Supra will be unveiled as early as January 2016 at the Detroit Auto Show or in March 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show.

During the 2015 Geneva Motor show, Toyota confirmed that a new Supra is under development and the Japan-based company is working on The Silk Road Project together with BMW. According to Art of Gears, BMW will develop the 2017 Supra's engine and chassis. On the other hand, Toyota will handle all the aspect regarding hybrid technologies.

Based on the dimensions of the new Supra, it appears that it is shorter, wider and a bit taller compared to the last model which was manufactured in 2002. The new 2017 Supra's dimension is at 4500mm x 1840mm x 1340mm and has a wheelbase of 2500mm.

On the engine side, BMW is working to produce a 2.0-liter four cylinder turbo engine with power output of 240 horsepower and torque of 260 lb-ft. There is also an inline 6-cylinder turbo with 335 horsepower and 330 lb-ft torque. If Toyota opts to combine the inline 6-cylinder turbo with an electric motor with hybrid battery setup, the 2017 Supra could easily achieve a power output close to 470 horsepower.

Toyota is expected to release the 2017 Supra in 2018.
