When "I Am Cait" premieres on Sunday, July 26, it is not only Caitlyn who will be seen by viewers but also her mother and siblings. While Bruce Jenner has been part of "Keeping up with the Kardashians," and some of his kids with Kris are in the show, the Jenners from Caitlyn's childhood family would be seen in the new reality show.
Caitlyn's mother, Esther, and two sisters, Lisa and Pam, plus her own daughter Kylie will be brought in to meet for the first time the transgender woman they once called Bruce, reports Washington Post. The former Olympian's apprehensions and fears would be resurrected, although the newspaper says that Esther's maternal feelings overrule her misgivings over his gender cross-over.
Esther, like many members of her generation struggling with gender shift, especially if it involves a member of her own family, admits to finding it hard to let go of Bruce who gave her so much pride when he brought home the gold medals in the 1976 Olympics. The change in gender did not change that motherly love and pride, even though Esther still struggles at times with the correct pronoun to use. Esther stresses, "I love him with all my heart, and I certainly love her with all my heart."
Reactions to her coming out are the staple of the reality show as Caitlyn moves out of the shadows of the Kardashians as their stepfather and becomes the star of a reality show. And what is more befitting for a star than a closetful of free gowns from brand name designers such as Tom Ford and Diane von Furstenberg.
However, the all dolled-up Caitlyn would need to work on her masculine voice to complete the female package as she admits being troubled by her big voice when she watched a video of her ESPY acceptance speech for the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.
The Guardian sees "I Am Cait" as a better show than "Keeping up wIth the Kardashians" for being the exact opposite of the show when Caitlyn was still Bruce. The Kardashian show always attempted "to squeeze drama out of real life and usually fails miserably," the British daily observes.
However, Caitlyn's new show would try "to squeeze real life out of an incredibly dramatic situation," it adds. The eight-episode series airs on E! at 8 p.m. EST.
