English club Manchester United is reportedly targeting Real Madrid's star winger Gareth Bale as replacement for the outgoing Ángel Di María because Louis van Gaal finds fellow Los Blancos forward Cristiano Ronaldo unaffordable for the Red Devils as of the moment.

Di María is about to leave the Red Devils for the comforts of Parc des Princes in Paris and that would leave van Gaal with team captain Wayne Rooney as his only legitimate scoring option.

The recent signing of winger Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven provides some playmaking, but the Dutch coach wants an authentic striker that could unload goals consistently and would help Rooney up front. And so the option of Bale emerged.

The Daily Express noted that van Gaal told reporters in an interview that his first option was Ronaldo, but then immediately said afterward that they could not afford him.

However, the Dutch coach insisted that they are looking for a "Galáctico" signing before the transfer window closes. Although he did not specifically mentioned Bale, it was widely speculated that the Wales international is the next target as he had been involved in Man United transfer rumors before.

Meanwhile, Y Dreigiau manager Chris Coleman deems that Bale will stay at the Bernabéu this summer, as per The Guardian.

Coleman said that it would be better for the Wales national team if the 26-year-old Cardiff native would stay in the Spanish league as he would be fresher to represent his country.

Coleman explained that it was physically more demanding to play in the Premier League than in La Liga and it may take a toll on Bale's body if he transfers to Old Trafford.
