Chinese Sudoku lovers, tallying up to 200, set a new Guinness World Record after solving the world's largest multi-Sudoku puzzle over the weekend.
On Saturday, a Guinness World Records authenticator Cheng Dong remarked that the event was the "first successful attempt at creating and solving such a large multi-Sudoku puzzle."
The puzzle, which was specifically created by the members of Beijing Sudoku Association, is composed of 200 standard Sudoku grids that were diagonally chained. It has overlapping areas that comply with the rules of adjacent grids.
Qiao Xixi, a seven-year-old and is one of the youngest participants in the challenge, shared: "The puzzle I got is a little more difficult compared with what I have practiced before."
"I was pretty worried when I saw my friends finishing the puzzle, until I finally solved it in 10 minutes. I felt excited and lucky to participate," the young Sudoku enthusiast further shared.
Participants of the Sudoku game are young volunteers in Beijing and those contestants in the recently concluded two-day World Sudoku Junior Championship.
"While it might sound simple for puzzle enthusiasts, setting the record is no easy feat for the puzzle maker and these youngsters. Designing such a complicated puzzle is time-consuming and every single part needs to be solved accurately on the scene," Beijing Sudoku Association representative Chen Cen remarked.
"We hope that by setting the record, more people, especially teenagers in China, will get to know the glamor of Sudoku, and the pleasure of solving the puzzle in the process," Cheng, who oversaw the event and handed the certificate of the new record, enthused.
