Google is giving more reasons for Android fans to grab the Nexus 2015 on release date. The tech giant is not only issuing the flagship in two models - rumored as LG Nexus Bullhead and Huawei Nexus Angler - but is also guaranteeing of platform and security support that will last three years, max.
Nexus fans are not only getting the best vanilla Android phone builds this 2015 but will also enjoy the benefit of extended OS support, likely longer than were provided in earlier Nexus device models. In a latest statement posted on the Android Official Blog, Google declared that it is following through with the tradition of the Nexus devices getting "platform and security updates."
"From this week on, Nexus devices will receive regular OTA updates each month focused on security, in addition to the usual platform updates," the tech giant announced. Apart from the OTA dispatch, Google also plans to make the security patches available through the Android Open Source Project, which is a channel that is open to the public.
The monthly software updates and security patches will be the standard norm for existing Nexus devices with the post pinpointing the following as immediate recipients: Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, Nexus 10 and Nexus Player. As expected, upcoming models will be automatically listed in the program - meaning would-be users of the two Nexus 2015 models will have access to the bolstered OS and security support.
Google also indicated that the first security update started rolling out globally on August 5 and the devices mentioned above should receive the patch anytime. Chief target of the latest fix is the StageFright bug that potentially can expose hundreds of millions of Android devices in circulation to security breaches.
With the upgraded security measures in place, Google assured that "security continues to be a top priority and monthly device updates are yet another tool to make and keep Android users safe."
In line with the newly fortified Android platform and security program, Google said that all Nexus devices, including the upcoming LG and Huawei Nexus this 2015, are assured of getting major software updates for at least two years. Afterwards, the security patches will continue to flow in for the next 12 months, technically providing Nexus users maximum three years of OS support.
And the OS support clock will start to tick on the official release date of the Google Nexus 2015, which if the rumors will prove correct is happening as early as the last week of September. In the same unpacking it is believed that Android M will make its official debut.
