Windows 10 is official and Intel's Skylake chip is also out and the combo is likely among the banner features for the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 release date, rumored to happen in October 2015. But waiting seems unnecessary when the very capable Surface Pro 3 is now on Windows 10 and is priced $150 less.

Popular Windows blogger Paul Thurrott has been saying that the Surface Pro 4 may not become a reality this year as Microsoft is strangely keeping mum on the subject. Not a word heard from the software giant - no details on possible specs and features that should provide hints if the device is even actually worked on.

But there was a faint indication that the Windows-powered tablet might just surface October this year though Microsoft remains uncommitted with an official statement. It could be that waiting for the device would be for naught as there is no solid assurance that the SP4 is for real, at least this year.

Thankfully, there is an alternative and Surface tablet fans can just end the waiting game right now. Seriously consider the Surface Pro 3 that according to Thurrott is "now available with Windows 10 pre-bundled from the Microsoft Store."

The Pro 3 package is not to be sneered at, specifically the ones powered by Intel Core i7 processing chip. The CPU on these Surface Pro 3 flavors is paired with 8GB of RAM plus wide choices of SSD storage - from 256GB to 512GB. The devices are specced up indeed and the speed and power they pack should be felt easily with Windows 10 giving life to the tablet.

As Thurrott had said in an earlier blog post, Windows 10 and Surface Pro 3 is a mix that could make one readily forget all the talks about the Surface Pro 4. The latter is speculation while the former is for real and it here now, the blogger said.

And to convince that there is no need to wait for the Pro 4 rumors to come true, the Thurrott report notes that some models of the Surface Pro 3 have become cheaper by $150. He listed the following:

  • Surface Pro 3 on Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD: Original price - $1299, Discounted - $1149
  • Surface Pro 3 on Intel Core i7, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SDD: Original price - $1549, Discounted - $1399
  • Surface Pro 3 on Intel Core i7, 8GB of RAM, 512GB SDD: Original price - $1949, Discounted - $1799

So now it's a matter of choice - wait for the Surface Pro 4 release date with no definite assurance from Microsoft when the actual touchdown is. Or grab the Surface Pro 3 now with powerful specs and experience the hybrid Windows 10 without further delay plus the bonus of pocketing $150 of savings.
