In the world of modern gaming, video games are demands so much storage requirement that a 500GB hard drive can only hold a handful of games. To remedy this shortage of storage space, Microsoft has worked with renowned hard drive manufacturer Seagate in order to develop a 2TB external hard drive that can be connected to the Xbox 360 and Xbox One console.

According to Engadget, the new 2TB external hard drive will be called Game Drive and is designed exclusively for Microsoft's flagship consoles. In order to add another layer of exclusivity, Seagate choose the ubiquitous Xbox green color for the hard drive's color and it also flaunts the official Xbox logo.

The Game Drive can be connected to the Xbox One and Xbox 360 console via the integrated USB 3.0 port. The USB 3.0 support ensures a seamless data transmission between the console and the hard drive by speeds of up to 5GB/second which is ten times faster than the standard USB 2.0.

The external hard drive from Seagate is a plug-and-play device which means that no additional installation is needed for it to work with either the Xbox One or Xbox 360 console. Since the device is a collaboration with Microsoft, gamers who purchase it is assured that it will come with the latest drivers in order to deliver top-notch data transmission performance.

Seagate senior vice director of product marketing Jeff Foctman posted the announcement on Seagate's official website saying, "There was a clearly defined need in this market for additional plug-and-play storage and Seagate is happy to be able to provide the solution."

The Game Drive will fetch a retail price of $109.99 and will be available at Amazon, GameStop and other supported retailers worldwide.
