When Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 were released, they all featured a separate N version. The N editions did not include the Windows Media Player and some other Microsoft media applications in the OS bundle for the European consumers.

When Microsoft was fined by Korea Trade Fair Commission in 2005, it removed two applications from the OS, namely the Windows Messenger and Windows Media Player. This is resulted in the birth of Windows K that did not feature these two applications for the Korean users.

In Windows 10, the N version for the European users and the K version for the Korean users are those editions do not feature Window Media Player, Music, Video, Sound Recorder and Skype, Win SuperSite reported. Users residing in the aforementioned regions will have to choose between the N and KN versions.

Even if a customer purchases the K and KN versions of Windows 10, users can simply use the "media feature pack" application to install the missing applications. For Windows 10, it can be downloaded for the Download Center on Microsoft's website.
