The latest casting news of "Jane the Virgin" Season 2 revealed that a famous music artist will guest star in the CW TV series. Pop icon Britney Spears is set to appear in the upcoming new season of "Jane the Virgin" as Rogelio de la Vega's new rival.
In the pilot season, telenovela star Rogelio de la Vega's rival was Esteban Santiago (Keller Wortham). The competition between the two actors escalated when they were both nominated for the Best Actor in a Dramatic Series category at the Paloma Awards and Esteban was the declared winner.
According to TVLine, "Jane the Virgin" executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman confirmed in a statement that Britney Spears agreed to guest star in "Jane the Virgin" Season 2, episode 5. Urman explained they are eager to tell Britney Spears' side of the story after finding out from Jane's dad, telenovela star Rogelio de la Vega (Jaime Camil) that he had a long standing feud with the pop superstar.
Urman teased at the 2015 Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills that the two superstars' quality of interaction in "Jane the Virgin" Season 2 will be a little bit in dispute between what Britney Spears thinks and what Rogelio thinks. Britney Spears, 33, also excitedly shared the news to her millions of followers on Twitter.
Spears' message teased that she will be seeing Gina Rodriguez, who portrays Jane Villanueva in the comedy series and Jaime Camil at the Marbella Hotel soon. "Jane the Virgin" cast members Gina Rodriguez and Jaime Camil were equally excited to have the pop superstar as their celebrity guest in the upcoming new season.
"Literally fell out my chair @britneyspears I can not wait to work with you beauty! I'm covered in goosebumps. This is unreal!!!" Rodriguez posted on her Twitter account @hereisgina on Tuesday, Aug. 11, after finding out about the casting news. Meanwhile, Jaime Camil tweeted that it will be a great honor to have Britney Spears on the show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Jane the Virgin" Season 1 warmly welcomed celebrity guest stars Rita Moreno as Rogelio de la Vega's mother, Paulia Rubio as herself and Nia Vardalos as Jane and Rafael Solano's therapist. Cheech Marin also made a celebrity guest appearance in "Jane the Virgin" Season 1, episode 18 as Edward, a priest and love interest of Abuela Alba (Ivonne Coll).
"Jane the Virgin" Season 2 will premiere on Monday night, Oct. 12, on the CW Network.
