After his emotional and tearful exit from Comedy Central's "The Daily Show", of which he served as host for 16 years, Jon Stewart inked a deal recently to host World Wrestling Entertainment's (WWE) SummerSlam event which took place last night, August 23 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The WWE of course didn't actually just want him to host the event however, and true to WWE form, Stewart became part of the show itself.

Stewart interrupted the Seth Rollins versus John Cena title-for-title matchup, climbed into the ring and instead of helping Cena, Stewart shocked the crowd by turning on him, ramming a steel chair into his midsection.

Reigning WWE Champion Rollins then proceeded to faceplant Cena onto the steel chair with a Pedigree, pinning an unconscious Cena shortly afterwards with a three-count.

This wasn't the first time Stewart played a short role in the WWE's diverse storylines. He was once on WWE before when a storyline saw him stand opposite Rollins inside the ring.

Stewart and Rollins engaged in a feud that began when the heavyweight champ provoked Stewart in a video posted on the internet. Rollins then went on to crossover to The Daily Show in a skit where the he challenged Stewart to appear on Monday Night RAW so they could settle matters inside the ring.

Stewart then made his live appearance on RAW, memorably delivering a kick to Rollins' groin that got the crowd cheering, which is why the betrayal on Cena last Sunday night was a complete shocker, I guess, to everyone who hasn't experienced the WWE's common plot twists.

To long-time fans, this sort of stuff happens all the time.

With the victory, Rollins becomes the first man to hold the WWE championship along with the United States championship that Cena previously held. The loss denied Cena of tying wrestling legend Ric "The Nature Boy" Flair of being a 16-time world champion.

A longtime fan of the WWE and of pro-wrestling, Stewart's appearance at SummerSlam is but the first appearance of surely to be many more after his 'departure' from television.

Last August 6, Stewart left The Daily Show since serving as its host from 1999 to 2015. Stewart is also a comedian, writer, producer, director, and media critic. He was former host of MTV's "The Jon Stewart Show" and also appeared in many films as an actor.
