Samsung dislodged the iPhone 6 Plus from its throne as the smartphone camera king when the Galaxy S6 came out in early 2015 and it looks like Samsung's reign will continue with the Galaxy Note 5. The fifth-gen original phablet chopped the 6 Plus into pieces in a camera showdown, a new report said.
Phone Arena conducted what it called as blind camera comparison, in which the tech blog site asked readers to rate a few set of pictures. Each set is composed of four identical frames captured by four different devices. Aside from the Note 5 and the iPhone 6 Plus, the Galaxy Note 4 and Xiaomi Mi Note Pro also saw action in the four-way battle.
As hinted above, the Note 5 emerged as the runaway winner when compared to the 6 Plus shooter, which in 2014 got many tech experts raving for its winning features and chief among them is the rear shooter that Apple hardware-laced with optical image stabilization or OIS. That was last year.
Fast forward to third quarter of 2015 or barely a few weeks prior to the arrival of the iPhone 6 Plus sequel, the 6S Plus, Apple's bet can hardly compete as Phone Arena noted that its readers mostly picked the images shot from the Note 5 as having the best quality. The choices were made with the readers having no clue on phones were used in taking the pictures.
Of the four sets of pictures presented, two were completely dominated by the Note 5. The other two were won by the Galaxy Note 5 but in small margin that is why the newer Samsung phablet was adjudged as the new phablet camera king in this round of the battle.
How the iPhone 6 Plus figured? Apple pride was for the most part left eating dust, always coming in third and in one occasion even beaten by the relatively unknown Mi Note Pro from China.
Phone Arena said that another round of skirmish will happen still involving the four adversaries but in a different setting. The just concluded camera tussle happened in an environment that benefitted from bright natural light. Moving forward, the four super phablets will be locked in an epic battle of producing the best quality images in low-light condition.
It is highly likely that the Galaxy Note 5 may yet again win this round but it would be an entirely different story, according to BGR, if the next rumble will see the iPhone 6S Plus showing off its supposedly better-specced camera. Now this should happen shortly after the rumored 6S Plus release date in September 2015.
