"Chasing Life" executive producer Patrick Sean Smith recently explained why it was necessary to kill off Scott Michael Foster's character, Leo Hendrie.

During an interview with Variety, Smith said that it would not be a good storyline for Leo to end his marriage to April (Italia Ricci) or simply abandon her considering they just wed.

This is why after going back and forth on the storyline, Smith and the other execs of "Chasing Life" decided that Leo's demise was their best option.

Meanwhile, Smith also talked about April's future now that Leo is no longer around. According to him, Leo's funeral will be emotional because the character and the actor deserve a sort of tribute.

Smith also revealed that a lot of Leo's fans tweeted him their negative reactions on the character's onscreen death. Smith said that he anticipated such reactions, but he had to follow his gut to kill off the character.

The executive producer added that Leo will forever be a part of April's life because he is the only one who really understand that she was going through because he was also going through the same thing.

In other news, Smith confirmed that there will be no hope for a reconciliation between Dominic and April because the latter would somewhat blame the former for Leo's death. However, in the upcoming episodes and seasons, Dominic will still be one of April's closest male friends.

"Chasing Life" season 2 airs Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET on ABC Family.
