"Grey's Anatomy" executive producer Shonda Rhimes recently slammed rumors that Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) will have a new love interest in the upcoming 12th season of the hit ABC series.

In an interview with TV Line, Rhimes said that new cast member Martin Henderson will not be part of the series to play the role of Pompeo's new onscreen partner.

Rhimes said that she understands that some fans may still not be over the fact that Meredith's husband, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) already passed away.

Meanwhile, while at the 2015 TCA summer press tour, Rhimes also revealed that Henderson's surgeon character will not be introduced early on in season 12. The exec added that she is still figuring out what role she will give to Henderson.

In other news, Rhimes also spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about Meredith's future with her sister-in-law Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and half sister Maggie (Kelly McCreary). She said that the three will be living in the same house together and as such, will come to into arguments and fights.

Rhimes said that the dynamic between the three women, who are somehow related to one another, is an interesting addition to the show. "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will have a much lighter tone. This is why a sort of comic relief or petty fights between the three would be a welcome addition to the series.

Other than these spoilers, "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will also feature the return to April (Sarah Drew) and her reunion with Jackson (Jesse Williams).
