Miley Cyrus recently criticized MTV Video Music Awards 2014, in which her hit song "Wrecking Ball" won Video of the Year.

Wearing workout gear, Cyrus was recently recording with Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips what she described "avant-garde" music at her home studio when she had an interview with New York Times.

Cyrus told the publication, "Last year there wasn't even a host, so there was no energy."

According to Cyrus, MTV told her that the upcoming VMA, which she will host on Aug. 30, Sunday, from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Calif., is her party. She said did not want the award ceremony to be like it has been in the past.

What Cyrus promises the fans is that VMA 2015 will be unlike any other as it will be "psychedelic" and "raw," unlike any other.

In 2013, Cyrus had a controversial performance with Robin Thicke at the VMA. Performing with a phallic foam finger, the "Wrecking Ball" singer inaugurated the meaning of twerking at the time.

"I couldn't really believe the reaction to it," VMAs executive producer Van Toffler told Billboard of Cyrus's controversial performance with Thicke at the VMA 2013. "I think it was simply that Miley was known as Hannah Montana, a child star and then she chose to show the world she was an adult with some provocative dancing."

About Cyrus hosting the VMA 2015, Toffler said, "She feels like the perfect host. She's that great marriage of music credibility, candor."

For Toffler, Cyrus uses social media so well to express herself. The VMA executive producer also described the singer and actress as provocative, chaotic and unpredictable, which is everything they want for the show.
