The reason why "By The Sea" actress Angelina Jolie steps down from her position as trustee in a mine-clearing charity that once supported by Princess Diana has now come to light with details that some trustees made payments to themselves to the amount of more than $700 a day.

According to the Mirror, the "Salt" actress is said to have been "extremely uncomfortable" with two Halo Trust staff who allegedly paid themselves more than $180,000 for a project review.

While Jolie quit from her post last year in May after serving on the board for 18 months, she cited other humanitarian commitments as the reason behind her departure at the time.

However, a recent investigation into the Halo Trust and its Board of Trustees has revealed that Jolie was not happy after hearing that charity funds had been used on a review of the trust's "structural, remuneration and governance arrangements," according to the Daily Mail.

Furthermore, it has been revealed that Jolie had told trustees the cost for the review should have been paid for by the trustees themselves instead of using charity funds.

The "Maleficent" star had been appalled to learn that the Halo Trust funds had also been used to pay for boarding school fees of two of the trustees' children.

The trust and its work came into the spotlight in 1997 when the late Diana, Princess Of Wales Diana visited one of their project sites at an Angolan minefield.

Since the death of Princess Diana, her son Prince Harry has followed in her footsteps and taken on the mantle and serves as patron of the trust. In 2013, he went to Angola to see the trust's mine-clearing work first hand in a widely publicized visit.
