Many analysts believe that perennial Premier League championship contender Arsenal FC had a decent summer this year as the transfer window closed, although they only had one significant signing in former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.
Arsene Wenger also believes that his club will be alright and stay in the fight for Premier League greatness this season, even as he admitted that they should have made more signings to further strengthen their squad.
With Cech, the Gunners are definitely stronger on defense. But what about on offense? With those thoughts here are some of the latest transfer rumors about Arsenal.
Wenger wants disgruntled Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama in January: Wenger is said to be looking forward this early to the January transfer window re-opening as he targets the 24-year-old Kenya international.
Rumors abound that Wanyama actually asked the Saints that he wanted to move to the Emirates, but he was not allowed.
Aside from Arsenal, the Spurs were also reportedly interested in the defensive midfielder. But the Gunners is allegedly the first choice of the Kenyan. While Wanyama would certainly be a great addition, Wenger may not really be looking to add another defender at this time. Verdict: Fiction.
Gunners prepared a £22 million bid for Juve's Simone Zaza on deadline day: It is no secret that Wenger is looking to add more offensive options to his current lineup and the 24-year-old Italian striker is one of the players on top of his wishlist.
Arsenal did approach Juventus for their prized forward and Juve reportedly responded with a quote of £22 million. The reason why the fee was so high is because the Italian window has already closed and Juve will not be able to replace him at once.
Which led Arsenal to decide to acquire him next year, and get a much lower deal in the process, when both transfer windows have opened again. Verdict: Fact.
