Chinese director Feng Xiaogang tries a career in acting after he has appeared in the Guan Hu-helmed "Mr. Six," which will hit the theaters in December.
At a press conference held in Beijing on Sunday, Feng said, "I'm director Feng no more, now I'm actor Feng." He also admitted that he is a "newcomer to the world of acting."
While the recent period has seen many actors and writers becoming a director, Feng turned the other way and dabbled in acting. The news has stirred curiosity as to how he will deliver and portray his role.
Asked about why he agreed to act in the film, Feng remarked that he is "very excited."
"Guan's script is very good and is very challenging for actors. And Guan, a great director, can carry on the good practices from the last generation of filmmakers and inspire the next. He gave me, as an actor, a great feeling of safety and he is trustworthy. He also taught me a lot as a director," he added.
Clarifying the issue that he intervened in the directing job, Feng stated, "I'm an actor now, I have been thinking about my performance and there is no room for other things."
However, he noted that he would still prefer being a director in the future.
"I felt I would prefer being a director in the future. I can't act in other film genres aside from that of 'Mr. Six,'" he said.
"Mr. Six" follows the story of an old gang member who gathered his old pals to teach younger gang members. The film will premiere on Dec. 24 of this year.
Meanwhile, Feng has previously had cameo appearances in other blockbuster hits, such as "In the Heat of the Sun," "Kung Fu Hustle" and "Let the Bullets Fly."
