Developer FiftyThree released its Paper version 3.0 on September 10, Thursday, announcing that it is the drawing app's biggest update in its history, which started with the 2012 initial release for the Apple iPad. The free application collects ideas through note-taking, lists, sketches, and photos, and is now available free for the iPhone.
FiftyThree said its objective is to turn its mixed-media productivity app into the Internet's best tool for note-taking and idea-collecting. Customized swipes can now be used to add text, images, and photos.
Users of the new app version can also use their fingers to move text snippets on the device's touchscreen. They can then make lists.
Paper's new features include the ability to type notes, sketch pictures, or take photos; and use a swipe to make headlines, fast lists, or bullet points. It also includes a new filter that allows users to highlight sections of photos and screenshots, and new tools can create graphs, diagrams, and sketches.
Yet another feature makes grids of ideas. Text, sketches, and photos can be aggregated and then created into outlines, storyboards, or presentations that resemble a wall made of sticky notes.
Previous versions of Paper showed ideas in virtual notebooks referred to as "spaces," with each sketch having a separate page. However, version 3.0 spaces are now like digital stacks of paper, allowing the app's users to jot down ideas when the app opens, according to Top Tech News.
Finished ideas can be exported to PowerPoint, or stored in PDF format on clouds such as Dropbox, according to Pulse Headlines. They can also be shared on Facebook and other social networks.
The new Paper version looks like a mini iPad interface. Most features can be accessed by using one or two taps.
Paper is compatible with iPads and iPhones running at least iOS 8. Users also have the option to draw using the Pencil Bluetooth stylus, or an index finger instead.
Paper 3.0 can be downloaded for free at the Apple App Store. It is also available at FiftyThree's website.
