StrongLoop is as startup based in San Mateo, California. The company focuses on the creation and development of software for enterprises by using the open-source JavaScript programming language Node.js. Software built by StrongLoop allow companies to create cloud and mobile based apps which are equipped with APIs that allows them to handle massive amounts of data through mobile, web and Internet of Things apps.

Both IBM and StrongLoop did not disclose the official figures of the deal. On the other hand, StrongLoop received a $9 million funding from Ignition Partners and Shasta.

The StrongLoop acquisition will also help IBM in competing with other companies like Amazon which has already established its own Node.js platform in 2013. IBM said that Node.js developers can immediately start using the company's Bluemix service as well as use the Watson platform.

Now that StrongLoop is part of IBM, the startup can now acquire the much needed resources in order to accelerate and amplify the development of its products and software.

After news of the acquisition went public, StrongLoop CEO Juan Carlos Soto told ZDnet that the company promises uninterrupted support for its customers. Soto added that in spite of the acquisition, the company will stay committed to the Node ecosystem.
