Floyd Mayweather, Jr is now officially retired after he finished off Andre Berto by a unanimous decision last Saturday, September 12.

He has tied Rocky Marciano's 49-0 record. But what's better than tying an all-time record? Actually breaking it.

While we have all heard Mayweather's pronouncements, this is not the first time he has retired. The first time was in 2008, amid demands for a Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight.

That fight already took place last May, in what was one of the biggest disappointments in boxing. Still, Mayweather got the win, the bragging rights and over $ 200 million in a day's work. So why is he still taking shots at the Pacman?

Sky Sports quoted Money May before his fight with Berto. "I'm in top condition, we had a great training camp, it went tremendous but the main thing tomorrow is going out there, being at my best. Since Pacquiao didn't give the fans a good fight, tomorrow's going to be a great fight."

On the other hand, the Pacman could not resist, as Sports Illustrated note of his Instagram post at the time Mayweather vs Berto was taking place.

"Pacquiao took to Instagram to throw a pretty tough jab of his own,"SI surmised. "Well, sort of. In the video, posted while his longtime rival's fight was happening, Pacquiao lays in bed and gingerly taps out a tune on a piano app on his phone. By the end, he can't help but crack a smile."

The take away here is that things do not appear "settled" between the two. The current doping charges on Mayweather will only fuel any fire that's left.

Still, Mayweather's 49th  bout was held and he won, just like before. When it was all said and done, no one seemed convinced that this is "It" for Mayweather. Telegraph UK went as far as sleuthing for clues.

"However, here is a caveat," they stated. "Officials at MGM Resorts will no doubt want Mayweather to christen the new 20,000-seat arena that it is building behind the Las Vegas Strip, which is due to open in April next year. The stage is set the master of publicity to accomplish what no other fight has done and reach 50-0. Never say never in boxing, particularly when it comes to Mayweather."

Mayweather usually wants to schedule his fights on May and September. A fight in May at the new arena sounds right up his alley.
