Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien has reportedly decided to go with Ryan Mallett to be his team's starter against the Carolina Panthers in their Week 2 game on Sunday. This means that after less than a game as Houston's starting quarterback, Brian Hoyer is back in the bench.

It was not the ideal start for the 29-year-old, so to speak, as his first ever pass attempt as Houston's starting signal caller was intercepted by Chiefs rookie cornerback Marcus Peters. Little did everyone know that it was a sign of things to come.

Hoyer played for three quarters last Sunday and went 18-of-34 for 236 yards and a touchdown, with one interception and four sacks, for a total QBR of 12.3, probably the lowest among quarterbacks during Week 1.

The Texans were down 27-9 when O'Brien decided to field in Mallett with over six minutes remaining in regulation time, as reported by USA Today.

Mallett performed better, to say the least, going 8-of-13 for 98 yards and one touchdown, no interceptions and one sack in limited playing time for an 85.9 QBR.

Hoyer was clearly dejected after the game, saying that he felt like he let the "whole entire organization down" with his performance and that he understood his coach's decision to bench him in his first appearance as a starter, as reported by Bleacher Report.

O'Brien told reporters during his preseason announcement that he chose Hoyer to be the Texans' Week 1 starting quarterback because he had "the most consistency, the most composure in certain situations, and the experience in our system."

It seems like he was proven wrong as he was quick to change his mind about the whole thing.
