The HTC One M8, One M9 and One M8 Eye will be updated using the Android Marshmallow version rather than the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop version. While the search giant Google has yet to confirm the release date of the Android M, several reports tend to suggest September or October.

The vast majority of users of One M8 and One M9 are stuck on Android 5.1 Lollipop. T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint and AT&T have not announced plans to roll out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update to HTC One M8 as well as One M9.

At present, the HTC One M8 Eye is running on the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system. Unfortunately, the company has not rolled out any update for the One M8 Eye in the United States. However, according to reports, users of One M8 Eye in India got Android 5.0 Lollipop. Other countries will need to wait for the next operating system update.

The tech giant Google may release Android 6.0 Marshmallow this fall. However, it will take some time for the new update to reach carriers and manufacturers. If you have a subscription service through a carrier, you will be the last to get any Android update.

Jeff Gordon, senior HTC manager, has declared that the One M9 Plus and One M9 will get the Android M update, according to Venture Capital Post.

The Nexus series will be the first one to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update when it comes out, TechRadar reported. Google has already rolled out the third version of the developer's edition of Android Marshmallow. After that, Android M will roll out to the public.
