The episode 1 began with the last day of the school before it closes for summer vacation. Eddie and his friends are fretting over how to use the vacation so as to look cool in the eight grade.

Eddie has own plan of keeping his newly-bought Reebok pumps untouched so that he can boast of watching TV and eating junk throughout the vacation when the school is opened. But he is left devastated when MTV VJ declares on TV that the pumps are out of fashion.

Meanwhile, Evan, the youngest Huang, is under going the identity crisis as his last milk teeth has fallen off and he is given hand-me-down of Emery's stuff  in brand new packaging as his back-to-school essentials which also includes shoes with laces.

Evan is whimpering while his mother declares "no more velcroes."

Louis is preparing to go for an so-called official trip which is actually just an excuse to get away from his family for a while and guzzle down beer with his friends.

But Jessica trashed Louis plans by insisting to come along with the kids so that they can make maximum out of the trip, like running the AC on lowest possible temperature. So the family business trip becomes an impromptu road trip as the whole family squeezes into a minivan.

The resort where the Huangs are staying is adjacent to the famous Gator World where Eddie decides to acquire a souvenir T-shirt by riding the infamous death roller-coaster to show off in school.

Jessica, who has brought cooked food from home while on the vacation and is taking the kids to Gator World parking lot rides to avoid exorbitantly high entry fee of the amusement park, is freaked out that Louis is only freely drinking beer and eating steak. Louis convinces her to take a break and go for a spa treatment while he takes charge of the family.

The kids finally get to enter inside Gator World but Eddie chickens out the death roller coaster ride at the last minute when he saw another kid puking excessively.

Jessica manages to bring down the hidden costs of the hotel bill by faking a story about a slip and fall incident and a broken tooth. The kids are back at school when Evan discovers that no one is bothered how cool you are but is happy to know that his crush will be in her class as she is repeating eight grade.
