If the Google Nexus 5 2015 or Nexus 5X will prove underwhelming the 2016 follow up could come out as more impressive. That is if Google would choose the LG G5 as its next flagship's base-model. The upcoming device is already rumored to unbox with monster specs.

According to G4Games, the sequel to the LG G4 is shaping up to be a huge leap with its key specs leaking out from China. Pointing to a Weibo source, the blog report said that the LG G5 is likely to rock the same Qualcomm chip that was first reported to debut with Samsung's first 2016 flagship - the Galaxy S7.

As the S7 will stand on the mighty Snapdragon 820 so the LG G5 will do the same. It appears that while LG had opted out of the Snapdragon 810, the chief reason being the overheating issue that plagued the chip, the company is now ready to embrace the SD 820.

The same report described the SD 820 as the most powerful application processor to be released by Qualcomm. In a recent AnTuTu benchmark test, the latest SD 820 build reportedly scored more than 70,000 and the work on the chip is yet to be finished.

The giant chipmaker is expected to wrap up its SD 820 works October this year and the processor is only expected to gain more power and speed, the report added.

And if the latest leak will prove accurate then the LG G5 promises to be one of the beastly smartphones to come out in 2016. The same applies to Google's Nexus 2016 handset if LG will remain as a Nexus project partner and if the G5 will end up as the repurposed Nexus flagship next year.

Should that be the case then the next Nexus is likely to sport a killer rear camera shooter as G4Games added on its report that among the banner LG G5 capabilities is a super camera with a 20-megapixel sensor that Sony will supply. The whole camera package with the custom 1/2-inch Sony sensor is major bump from the 16MP shooter deployed by LG with the G4, the report said.

But everything about the LG G5 and the Nexus 2016 will not materialize until next year. For now, all eyes are set on September 29 - the day appointed as release date of the LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei Nexus 6P.
