"Grey's Anatomy" star and executive producer Debbie Allen recently weighed in on Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona's (Jessica Capshaw) new love interests.
In an interview with TV Guide, Allen seconded Shonda Rhimes' revelation that both Callie and Arizona will become friends in season 12. However, their new love interests could impact their relationship.
"When two people have had this kind of committed, tumultuous relationship - and it has been that - and then finally they go their separate ways, there's still love there. Even though you've moved on, you're always going to, 'Well, who is she with?'" she said.
Allen, who plays the role of Dr. Catherine Avery, said that Callie and Arizona will forever be bonded not only by the fact that they were ones married, but also by the fact that they share a daughter together.
There is so much history, so there will always be love and feelings involved for one another.
Meanwhile, Allen also talked about season 11's new cast member Kelly McCreary. The actress plays the role of Maggie on "Grey's Anatomy."
In season 12, fans will see a different side of Maggie, especially since she will be moving in with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone).
Allen also hinted on the possible romance for Maggie and said, "It's hard to be with anybody when you can't be with yourself. Maggie's discovering herself. She's always been this brilliant doctor, a very smart genius... But there's a part of her life that was probably not so developed."
"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will premiere on ABC on Thursday, Sept. 24.
