David Lemieux will face Gennady "GGG" Golovkin, who is tagged as "the most dangerous fighter alive."
The Canadian is unfazed by the Golovkin's immaculate record, or his 20 straight knockouts. He talked to ESPN and bared that he is ready for the biggest fight of his career.
"I am absolutely ready for Golovkin," he says. "There is not a single doubt in my mind, and I would not have taken the fight if there was."
He adds: "I think that my last fight against Hassan N'Dam is the one that prepared me the best for this championship fight. It was a major fight, a championship fight as well, and I delivered a great performance. I also showed that I could perform well and achieve great things under pressure. I have an experienced team behind me, we have all the tools and the experience needed to get me in the best shape that I can be in the ring on Oct. 17."
With three weeks to fight night, Lemieux declared: "My preparation for N'Dam went extremely well, we had a great camp and I was ready physically and mentally the day of the fight, and I proved that with my performance. We will use the same recipe."
Golovkin, despite his success, is not one of the most marketable boxers. This is only his first Pay-per-view fight. Lemieux, of course, is happy to share the headline and he understands the significance of this bout for his career.
"This is my next step, a big one, but one that I am definitely ready for. I honestly think that I'm the best chosen opponent to beat Golovkin now because of the boxer that I am, physically and mentally, but mostly because of my character, my strength of character."
In a public workout held in Montreal and covered by Fight City, Oscar de la Hoya, the Golden Boy himself, openly predicted that Lemieux will knock out the undefeated Kazakh slugger.
FC recounts: "But it was all smiles for the cameras yesterday, with De La Hoya loudly promising everyone a knockout win for 'Canada's next champion.'"
That's a bold prediction, but it's expected that de la Hoya will lift the confidence of his fighter. Three weeks from now, we'll find out if he's right.
