"I don't know that I meant to call her a major character, but she's a major talent. Certainly, she's someone I wanted fans to be aware of because we're excited about her music and her story - she plays an important relationship role as a love interest for Hakeem," she said last month.

Meanwhile, back in season 1, Hakeem had two love interests. The first one, Tiana, who eventually left him for another woman, and for her own career. The second one was Naomi Campbell's character Camilla Marks, according to IBTimes.

In other news, the upcoming second episode of "Empire" will feature Hakeem attempting to put together an all-female group. In an attempt to make the group a success, Hakeem will pursue a beautiful Latina girl to join in.

Meanwhile, "Empire" season 2 premiered on FOX last week with a record 16 million viewership.

Fans of the series tuned in to the premiere episode reportedly to find out more about what happened to Lucious and Cookie Lyon, and their three children.

In season 1, the entire Lyon family suffered through infidelities, stealing and deaths. So fans can expect to see more of their drama and arguments in season 2.

"Empire" season 2 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on FOX.
