Former Washington Redskins starting quarterback Robert Griffin III had his name frequently mentioned in recent NFL trade rumors as he is reportedly still recovering from the concussion-like symptoms he suffered during the team's second preseason game versus the Detroit Lions.

The 25-year-old Pro-Bowler is still not cleared by team doctors to play and has been relegated as the Redskins' third-string quarterback after being the starting signal caller since his rookie season in 2012.

His backup, Kirk Cousins, was named the official starter for the whole 2015 season while previous third-stringer Colt McCoy became the primary backup.

The former Baylor standout is seen currently practicing with the squad as a safety for the scout team defense and is not included in the injured list, but still he is not allowed to be fielded in during real games by the organization.

ESPN indicated that team executives and coaches would like to trade Griffin, but the team owners are not amenable to the suggestion.

It was also reported that the front office had already negotiated with several unnamed teams, but the deal is not pushing through because of "resistance from team ownership."

However, an article by CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora refuted the rumors, saying that Washington has "no plans to shop or trade" the 2012 second overall pick this season.

New GM Scot McCloughan is said to be keen on keeping his quarterback depth past the November 3 trade deadline and shipping the 2012 Rookie of the Year is reportedly farthest from his mind.

What is certain, though, is that Griffin may have permanently lost his starting job to Cousins, who had been playing well as of late. It is also clear that his current setback had seriously put his career with Washington in question.
