Many viewers, even Ian Somerhalder, love watching "The Vampire Diaries" agrees that the "racy, weird stuff" fans watched in the first and second season were the best.

Subsequent seasons have had their peaks, but they have also indicated that they overemphasize on supernatural mythology and love triangles, and there was not enough focus on the dark, intriguing fun that defined the series in earlier years, MTV revealed.

According to TV Line, the CW on Monday released an official poster for the Oct. 8 return of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7, but as opposed to the drama-laden perspective of the show in the previous seasons, fans should expect more on Elena. TVD seems to have gone for a simpler approach this time around as it is merely a shot of Stefan (Paul Wesley)  and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) beneath the tagline "Heartbreak is eternal."

Season 7 premiere - "Day One of Twenty-Two Thousand, Give or Take" - which is episode 1 without Nina Dobrev, assures fans that the series developers have decided to go back to what made season 1 and 2 the best seasons in the entire series so far. Here is why:

1. Season 7 is simpler

Fans will be able to understand the basic idea of who the Heretics are and where they come from as opposed to the "big bads" associated with previous season. Viewers will spend less time with complex backstories and the rules of magic, and they only have much time enjoying the classic battle between good characters and bad characters.

2. It is scary

Season 7 will see Heretics becoming more brutal and terrifying. In the premiere alone, fans will see them tear through the necks of Mystic Falls like Stefan in his Ripper days.

3. Damon is wild

Damon is back with his previous bad-boy dark side. Now that Elena is no more, Damon has the bottle-in-hand attitude, although he is trying hard to protect his relationship with his comatose girlfriend.

4. Stefan is in love

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will be intriguing because Stefan is happy. He appears to be free of the 150 year-old-love triangle that ate through his soul in the previous seasons. After Elena passed out, Stefan can now move on with Caroline without having to meet his past heartbreak face-to-face.

5. Alaric is Shady

Jo's tragic death and the death of his unborn children trigger anger in Alaric that has never been seen before. This rage leads him down a deadly path that might get him at odds with his best friend Damon.

6. The new season is all about Mystic Falls

Fans will be fascinated to see Caroline, Elena and sometimes even Bonnie get their education on. "The Vampire Diaries" is at its peak when the core gang is facing evil and sometimes acting evil themselves in the great Mystic falls. The show returns to the roots by putting good guys at war with an evil group of vampires in the neighborhood.
