More NBA Trade rumors surface especially for teams with high stakes for the season like the Oklahoma City Thunder.
All 30 teams want to win the title, theoretically. Among realistic contenders, there are some teams with more on the line than simply the Larry O' Brien trophy and the OKC Thunder count among those.
With Kevin Durant, the franchise player due to become an unrestricted free agent, a title becomes needed insurance. The front office understands this. Thus, they made roster moves that clearly strengthened the team, but are there still some moves they can make?
Hoops Habit believes that one player recently rumored to be on the market is a logical fit for the hungry contenders. Channing Frye, according to Zach Lowe of Grantland, is quietly on the market.
"Sources around the league say Channing Frye is available now for very little, though Magic officials deny it," Lowe said.
The respected young analyst just spilled the beans on a golden opportunity that Hoops Habit suggests GM Sam Presti should make (if he isn't working on it already). HH suggests that OKC has more than the "very little" required for Frye.
"Oklahoma City has plenty of second-round picks to throw away on a player like Channing Frye," HH wrote. "They can also add a couple of expiring contracts in Dion Waiters, D.J. Augustin or Steve Novak to make the contracts work if they need to."
But why would the Thunder even bother? Frye would be considered an upgrade over current reserve power forwards Mitch McGary and Nick Collison, and he can stretch the floor-a priority for new coach Billy Donovan, on possible small ball offenses.
Frye is also on a cap friendly contract, considering the possible astronomical increases in salaries next summer. He is a bargain investment.
But for OKC, the key is really to win now because of the KD situation. There's little doubt that Frye can help with that goal.
