Barnes & Noble and Samsung has launched a new Nook reading device called Galaxy Tab E Nook.
The new reader-focused tablet features an LCD TFT 9.6-inch display with 12800 x 800 resolution. Comparing it to Galaxy Tab S2 Nook that has Super Amoled 2048 x 1536 QXGA, Galaxy Tab E Nook offers a worse display and weighs 10 ounces more.
It is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm APQ 8016 processor, sporting a 1.5GB of RAM with 16GB of internal storage and supports memory expansion up to 128GB. Its battery capacity is 5000mAh, with a 5MP primary camera, and a 2MP front-facing shooter. Galaxy Tab E Nook features GPS + GLONASS, dual stereo speakers, and WiFi support. Microsoft Office is also pre-loaded.
Galaxy Tab E Nook display uses more power than an e-ink display. The device has also added benefit of color and a crisp resolution, the combination of which better suits comic books and magazines. The display is also necessary due to the new NOOK’s entertainment features, which includes web browsing, videos, and more. It also supports Samsung’s Multi-Window feature according to CNET, which splits up the display for running two apps at once.
This upcoming reader-focused tablet has a pre-installed Nook store, a content gallery that contains about 4 million e-books and subscriptions to 100 bestselling magazines from the United States. It comes with a little software trick called Nook Profiles, which help customize the experience for multiple users. The Nook store also contain kid-friendly content, offering more than 110,000 titles for children, including some 1,000 interactive picture books.
Galaxy Tab E Nook sells at $250, which is $150 cheaper compared to Galaxy Tab S2 Nook. Barnes & Noble is also offering discounts: if the customer purchase the nook tablet by the end of the year, the company will offer $5 worth of credit in the Nook store.
Consumers can also trade in their older Nook devices to get $50 discount. iPads, Kindles, and other Samsung tablets are also included to receive a credit of up to $200, depending on the exact model, VentureBeat reported. The trade-in promotion will be valid until Nov. 7.
