"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 star Ian Somerhalder recently urged fans of Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert to star moving on already.
In an interview with E! News, the actor said that Damon and Elena may have been a great couple on the show, but they were also good characters individually.
With this, Somerhalder said that the hit The CW series will continue to survive even if Nina Dobrev is no longer part of it.
"All I can say about that is that they were great characters separate, they were great characters together, and they remain great characters separated. Damon is still here and he's still evolving and he's still having a blast and he's staying super-smarmy, ridiculously overly confident, very wildly embarrassing and degrading things and he will continue to do that, but with a little love for Elena in his heart," he said.
In season 6, Elena decided to go on a deep slumber. In real life, Dobrev exited the series after six seasons. The actress also said that there is no more chance for her character to return to the show.
Meanwhile, even though fans are still broken hearted over Elena's demise, Somerhalder told them yet again not worry because "The Vampire Diaries" will continue to move forward with interesting storylines.
"I'm thinking that this is the evolution of the show. Obviously she is in his heart and he is going to have a very tough time understanding how to go on, but that's what drama is for," he said.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 8.
