The team tried to rescue Jemma Simmons in Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 3 Episode 2.
Season 3 Episode 2 is entitled "Purpose In The Machine." As per Comic Book, the episode opened with a flashback to England in 1839. A man was consumed by a monolith while another man said that no one had returned in history.
Daisy Johnson and Mack MacKenzie agrued over Joey Gutierrez's capability as team member. MacKenzie said that Dr. Andrew Garner would do an assessment, which annoyed Johnson because it would take too long. Then, Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter came in and told them that Leo Fitz went to the monolith.
Fitz got some "impossible sand" and explained that it must have come from the other side of the monolith. With his belief that Simmons might still be alive, Fitz gave Phil Coulson what he needed. Coulson picked up Dr. Randolph, the Asgardian they previously met while Hunter looked for Grant Ward, who was the new head of Hydra.
Meanwhile, Melinda May was with her father in Sun City, Arizona, with the latter being curious on May's sudden change in behavior. She told Hunter in a chat conversation that her father needed her because he broke his hip in a car accident.
While Dr. Garner also told Johnson that Gutierrez needed time, she said that they were running out of time. Garner explained that extreme anxiety would lead to committing errors, just like when Fitz opened a portal to save someone. Johnson viewed Johnson as a growing leader who wants to build a team called "Secret Warriors."
After an attempt to open the ancient Kree monolith with Randolph's help, the team managed to have Simmons back. Garner called May to tell her the good news. May told him that she was already celebrating with Lance. Fitz and Simmons slept after their struggle in the monolith.
Then, Werner Von Strucker, the boy met by Ward, decided to enter Garner's psychology class.
As per Spoilers Guide, Season 3 Episode 3 will see Johnson, Coulson, and Mackenzie defend Campbell, since Prince Rosalind's team tracks the Inhumans. Meanwhile, Hunter teases that he will not seek payback to Ward and Hydra.
Kevin Tancharoen's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 3 Episode 2 "Purpose in the Machine" aired on the ABC Television Network on Oct. 6 while Garry A. Brown's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 3 Episode 3 "A Wanted (Inhu)man" hits the small screen on Oct. 13.
