"The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec is finally breaking her silence on rumors that Nina Dobrev will still return to the series in the upcoming seasons.

In the past, Plec said that she and the creators of the show are more than willing to welcome Dobrev back if she decides to reprise her role as Elena Gilbert.

Her previous statements led fans to speculate that Dobrev is contemplating on returning to the hit The CW series.

However, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dobrev reiterated that she will no longer return to "The Vampire Diaries," no matter what happens to her television and movie career in the next couple of months.

Meanwhile, in an interview with TV Line, Plec said that the premiere episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 was done in a such a way for Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to remember Elena.

However, the exec clarified that not all episode will be about her, or will mention her.

"She's always going to be present, emotionally and spiritually, but we won't spend every episode going down that path about how much Damon misses her, or how different the world is without her. But she will be very much a part of the narrative, the existence of her, specifically as it relates to Damon's journey and what he has to do to survive the next 22,000 days," she said.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 also introduced a slew of new characters, who are also known as the Heretics.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 airs Thursdays on The CW.
